Mastering Share CFDs

The aim of this module is to give participants the knowledge about what share CFDs re, how they are traded and some of the differences and similarities between these and other financial instruments e.g. forex or index/commodity CFDs. Work through the units in order and complete the quizzes as some of the content is incremental as it builds on previously covered material.

Learning outcomes:
• Recognise the differences between trading share CFDs and other CFD instruments
• Consider how this may impact on your current trading behaviour and the adaptations you will need to make when trading share CFDs

Learning outcomes:
• Using previous trading experience, understand the transferability of underlying factors that may cause any asset to move
• Identify the key factors that have a particular influence on share price movement (and so share CFDs)
• Examine the intra-day activity of share prices and market participants

Learning outcomes:
• Identify the factors that influence choice of trading time-frame
• Utilising your personal circumstances, "plant your flag" in which timeframe(s) could be the optimum for you to trade

In this module we take the basic overview knowledge covered in the first module, and start to look in more detail at some of the practical aspects of share CFD trading. As well as further detailed information on some of the differences you need to consider as a share CFD trader such as corporate events and costs, we explore some of the critical systems you need to have in place such as your trading plan and journal and position sizing systems.

• Understand the implications of earnings and dividends on share pricing
• Identify the trading risks to your share CFD positions of these corporate events and account for them within your trading plan as appropriate

• Calculate costs relating to brokerage, holding costs and margin requirement for both long and short trades

• Identify the key components of a share CFD trading plan and understand why having one is a critical part of your trading
• Using the example provided, create or revise your trading plan

• Recognise the vital role a journal can play in your development as a trader and with your trading system
